Another $100K In Handbags Stolen From Stanford Shopping Center

PALO ALTO, CA — For the second time in three weeks, a coordinated group of suspects stole more than $100,000 in handbags from a store at the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, according to police.

Eleven suspects stole 36 handbags on Monday from the Louis Vuitton store before fleeing through the mall and in five vehicles, according to Palo Alto police. Police responded immediately, according to a news release, but the suspects had already fled.

On May 19, 10 suspects stole 43 handbags worth more than $150,000 from the Neiman Marcus store at the Stanford Shopping Center in what Palo Alto police also described as a coordinated effort.

In both incidents, the suspects were unarmed. Police described the two incidents as “similar,” but added that different vehicles were used. In Monday’s incident, police said the suspects fled in five vehicles: a gray Lexus sedan, a gray Infinity sport utility vehicle, a white Audi sedan, a black four-door Hyundai sedan and a red two-door Honda sedan.

In the May 19 incident, the suspects fled in three vehicles, which witnesses described as a white Ford Mustang, a dark Infiniti four-door sedan and a white Infiniti four-door sedan, police said.

Witnesses described the suspects as Black males and females, possibly in their late teens or early 20s, according to police.
