The planned installation of the final Highway 101 Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge section over Highway 101 this weekend on June 5 and 6 has been postponed again due to transport issues. The bridge section has travelled from Arizona and is currently about 100 miles away from the jobsite. However, the hauling company transporting the bridge is having difficulties maneuvering the oversize load through their selected route and through constrained areas. They estimate it will take several more days to reach Palo Alto. The City will provide an update as soon as the contractor reschedules the installation.

The bridge segments across East and West Bayshore Roads were installed in the end of April. This middle segment will connect the two side segments.
Environmental assessment and project design were completed in late 2017 and early 2019, respectively. Caltrans approved the right-of-way certification, encroachment permit, and Authorization to Proceed in 2019. On November 18, 2019, Council approved the construction contract for the project. Construction began in late January 2020 and is anticipated to be completed by summer 2021.
