Palo Altans Prepare for Main Library Groundbreaking
Renovation of Main Library gets underway this Tuesday.

The second busiest library in the Palo Alto Public Library system, the Main Library finally get its long overdue makeover.
On Tuesday, June 25 there will be a groundbreaking for the expansion and renovation of the Main Library made possible by the passage of Measure N in 2008.

"Libraries are so important to the character of Palo Alto, and we are excited to begin the process of transforming the Main Library into a more modern 21st century facility while still retaining its historic beauty and presence,” said Vice Mayor Nancy Shepherd. “As a testament to the sound fiscal management, the City recently received the highest Triple A bond rating for the general obligation bonds for the Main Library Project, and that will save money.”

Designed by architect Edward Durell Stone, the Main Library opened in 1958. The architect for this expansion and renovation project is Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning, Inc. based in South San Francisco. Construction management is being provided by NOVA Partners, Inc., of Palo Alto.
