Palo Alto Council To Weigh 'Safe Parking,' Housing Extension
The city launched the program in 2018 to individuals and families living in their vehicles and RVs with an overnight parking site.

PALO ALTO, CA — The Palo Alto City Council on Tuesday will consider a proposal to extend the city's 24-hour "safe parking" program for another year.
The city and Project WEHOPE, a non-profit homeless housing shelter, launched the program in 2018 to individuals and families living in their vehicles and RVs with an overnight parking site.
The program was expanded last April to allow vehicles to remain on-site for 24 hours in response to the pandemic and Santa Clara County's shelter-in-place orders.
Members from Project WEHOPE provide social services and essential amenities to the program's participants. The program's extension is funded by the city and will last until April 21.
There are 11 households currently enrolled in the program.
