Palo Alto Indian Restaurant To Help Fund India's COVID Relief

The funds will go toward supplying oxygen, ventilators, cold storage equipment and temporary hospital facilities for India.

PALO ALTO, CA — Rooh is among 10 Bay Area Indian restaurants raising money to support COVID-19 relief efforts in India.

On May 25, the restaurants will donate 50 percent of their food sales to American India Foundation. India is in the midst of a surge in cases that has crippled its health-care system. The funds will go toward supplying oxygen, ventilators, cold storage equipment and temporary hospital facilities, according to a news release.

"After experiencing what happened even here in the U.S. during COVID, and experiencing firsthand how the restaurant industry suffered, this tragedy in India is very raw and fresh,” said Amber India owner Vijay Bist. “With this thought and urgency to help with the COVID devastation in India, emotional attachment aside, I've made a conscious decision to pull our sector of the community together to come forward and extend much needed help, because when everyone comes together it is powerful!"

Manish Tyagi, the executive chef at Aurum, said he feels a sense of duty to help.

“India is struggling at the moment, and, being Indian, it’s my moral responsibility to help my country in this unprecedented time,” Tyagi said.
