Rep. Eshoo Applauds $125 Million For BART Extension Project

CA 18th Congressional District Rep. Anna Eshoo supports the feds' allocation of $125 million for a BART rail expansion project.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- 18th Calif. District Rep. Eshoo has gone on the record in support of the U.S. Dept. of Transportation's announcement of $125 million in funding for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) BART Silicon Valley Phase II project.

“I’ve been a strong advocate of BART’s extension to Silicon Valley for over a decade. The $125 million investment to connect BART with Caltrain in the South Bay will relieve traffic congestion and support the continued growth of our region’s economy,” said Eshoo, whose district includes Redwood City, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and Palo Alto, plus part of San Jose.

K. Jane Williams, Acting Administrator for the Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration on Aug. 28 announced the $125 million allocation to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Silicon Valley Phase II project.

The BART Silicon Valley Phase II is a 6.5-mile, 4-station extension of the BART system from the Berryessa Station through downtown San Jose to the City of Santa Clara. It is the first project to receive a funding allocation under FTA’s Expedited Project Delivery Pilot Program.

Williams made the funding announcement at the Berryessa Transit Center, one of two stations VTA has built for the BART Silicon Valley Extension. The Berryessa station and the BART Station in Milpitas are set to open for passenger service at the end of this year.
