South Bay Man Charged With Assault With Intent To Commit Rape
The victim's 13-year-old daughter helped her mother fight off the suspect after she was awoken by screams, police said.

SUNNYVALE, CA — A South Bay man was arrested Monday on suspicion of assault with the intent to commit rape after an incident early Saturday morning.
Jorge Diaz, 32, entered a residence on the 1300 block of Yarmouth Terrace in Sunnyvale at 3:45 a.m. and attacked an adult female victim while she was sleeping, according to police. The victim’s 13-year-old daughter helped her mother fight off Diaz after she was awoken by screams, police said. Diaz fled through a sliding glass door and was arrested by Sunnyvale police in Mountain View on Monday.
The victim, who was released from the hospital Monday in stable condition, believed that Diaz was going to rape her, police said. Diaz held a knife to her neck and threatened to kill her if she screamed and he also repeatedly punched the victim in the head and bit her forearm, according to police.

Diaz is charged with burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, criminal threats and assault with the intent to commit rape. He was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail.
