Stanford Athlete Achieves Prestigious Sports Award

PALO ALTO, CA — Two-time AVCA National Player of the Year Kathryn Plummer has been recently selected the winner of the 89th AAU James E. Sullivan Award, presented annually to the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States, the Stanford News Service reported.

Plummer becomes the second women's volleyball player to receive the honor, joining Wisconsin's Lauren Carlini in 2016.

"I would like to thank my family. I couldn't have gotten to this point without you guys," Plummer said after receiving the award at the New York Athletic Club. "Thank you for coming to every game and being my biggest cheerleaders. You are my biggest role models and I owe you everything."

Plummer continued to thank those who voted, the university, her coaches and professors for what she insisting they molded her "into the person and player I am today."

Plummer's career has been blanketed with accolades and awards.

The James E. Sullivan Award presented by the Amateur Athletic Union was established in 1930 in honor of the organization's founder and past president, James Edward Sullivan.
