Watch: Palo Alto Thieves Grab $83,000 Worth of Jewelry

Police are searching for three suspects — a getaway driver and two others who ransacked Bloomingdale's display cases.

PALO ALTO, CA — Police are seeking the public’s help with identifying thieves who smashed their way through a glass entrance door at the Bloomington’s in the Stanford Shopping Center early Tuesday morning and made off with watches and jewelry before fleeing in a getaway car.

The Palo Alto Police Department dispatch center received a report at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday of a burglary at the Bloomingdale’s at 180 El Camino Road. Security on the scene saw a man running to a vehicle parked outside the store, then speeding away with the headlights off.

Security found a broken door at the entrance, and inside, discovered smashed jewelry display cases with many items missing — an estimated value of $83,000, according to the PAPD.

Surveillance video revealed a suspect using rocks to smash through the entry door and an accomplice using rocks to smash the inside cases.

The car fled the lot, turned on to Quarry Road, and was last seen heading north on El Camino Real.

Police say the vehicle appeared to be a white 1990s-era four-door BMW 3 series.

Detectives are looking into whether the burglary is connected to similar incidents in other Bay Area cities.
