Woman Killed With Baseball Bat In East Palo Alto: San Mateo DA

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, prosecutors said, when a neighbor heard glass breaking and a woman screaming.

EAST PALO ALTO, CA — An East Palo Alto man arrested last week on suspicion of beating a woman to death with a baseball bat was arraigned on Tuesday.

Jason Charles Dixon, 42, was charged with homicide in the killing of Marielos Martinez, the 48-year-old victim. An autopsy determined that Martinez was fatally beaten with a baseball bat and strangled with a pair of pants, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, prosecutors said, when a neighbor heard glass breaking and a woman screaming at the 200 block of Verbena Drive. After officers responded, Dixon came out with blood on his clothing and said there had been an argument, according to prosecutors.

Officers found Martinez inside and she was pronounced deceased 30 minutes later.

Dixon is in custody on $10 million bail.
