‘Extreme’ UV Index Predicted for 4th of July
The forecast ultraviolet index level of 11 in the Los Angeles area means a fair-skinned, unprotected person could get burned in about four minutes.
Along with the excessive heat warning issued for Wednesday and Thursday, an “extreme” UV index level of 11 is forecast for Los Angeles on Independence Day, according to the National Weather Service.

An exposure level reading of 10, or greater, City News Service noted, means a fair skinned person could suffer a sunburn in about four minutes if not protected.
An excessive heat warning for Los Angeles County mountains, including Altadena, is in effect until Thursday at 8 p.m.

The reading indicates what the UV exposure is expected to be at noon,
when the sun's rays are at their strongest, according to City News Service.
