PASADENA, CA — Although Pasadena has had a fireworks ban since 2018, that didn't stop residents from lighting up the night sky this past 4th of July.

Authorities confiscated around 50 pounds of fireworks and issued 20 citations to residents improperly celebrating Independence Day, according to the Pasadena Star News. Officials also issued 23 citations and took in 58 pounds of illegal fireworks between mid-June and July 4.

However, this year's illicit reveling wasn't as bad as last year, when authorities issued 64 citations and seized 427 pounds of fireworks.

Authorities previously warned residents against setting off fireworks in Pasadena. The amateur pyrotechnics could lead to unintended fires and serious injury, officials said at the time.

At least two brush fires were linked to fireworks in 2020 and a home was destroyed in June by a fire authority said was caused by a pair of children playing with fireworks.
