Blessing of the Animals in Pasadena (Photos and Video)
Dogs, birds, cats and even a bunny took turns getting blessed at St. Andrew Church on Saturday.
From bunnies to bulldogs, dozens of animals of various shapes and sizes flocked to St. Andrew Church in Old Town on a warm Holy Saturday afternoon for the annual Blessing of the Animals.
"If you have a vicious dog, please tell me ahead of time," joked The Rev. Paul Sustayta when he addressed the crowd of pets and owners in the school parking lot of the church. Before the pet were individually blessed, some were given awards for being the oldest, smallest or biggest around.
The tradition of blessing animals has existed in the Los Angeles area since the 1930s, according to the church.
