Celebrating Jane Austen in Pasadena

English Regency Dancing and Tea on Third Sundays in Pasadena

Imagine partying like it’s 1791 in Regency England almost every third Sundays in Pasadena. The Valley Area English Regency Society holds tea and dance parties in the style of Jane Austen: dancing is taught, and sociability abounds with a formal tea and conviviality.
Dr. Laura Freas Beraha is the hostess for the tea and teacher of the dances that appealed to Jane Austen. She experienced her first English Regency dance at a science fiction convention in 1981. To her it was like time travel; people were so sociable and polite, and she found the dancing to be exquisite. From then on she devoted herself to study the history of the Jane Austen period as well as the dances. She founded the [San Francisco] Bay Area English Regency Society in 1984, and formed its sister group, the Valley Area English Regency Society in 2016. With the exception of May and December, VAERS holds monthly dance parties [referred to by the Regency word “drums”] on third Sunday afternoons in Pasadena.
The next English Regency tea and dance party shall take place on October 21, 2018.
Donation is $8.00 and the bringing of a snack to share is greatly appreciated.
