CHP Shoots Suspect In Dramatic Chase Across LA County

A speeding suspect led police on a chase from Pasadena to Downtown LA, where he allegedly rammed officers who trapped him on a dead-end.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The California Highway Patrol shot a chase suspect late Sunday night when he allegedly rammed the officers' patrol car after they trapped him in a dead-end. The suspect was hospitalized with stable vital signs, according to the CHP.

The chase began in Pasadena at the Foothill (210) Freeway just before 11 p.m. Sunday when officers tried to pull over the driver for speeding. Instead of stopping, he fled, leading officers to Downtown Los Angeles. The suspect wound through side streets and backed himself into a corner in the 800 block of Commercial Street. That's when he turned around and armed the patrol car of pursing officers, prompting the officers to fire their guns at him, CHP Officer Chris Baldonado told reporters at the scene.

The officers rendered aid to the wounded suspect and he was taken to a hospital by paramedics, Baldonado said.
