City to Help Fix Property Owners’ Sidewalks Damaged by City Trees
Under a new Pilot Sidewalk Repair Partnership Program, the City of Pasadena will assist qualified residents with the cost of public sidewalks damaged by City trees.

Pasadena’s Department of Public Works launched a program this week that will help with the cost of public sidewalks damaged by City-owned tree roots.
See an NBC 4 video about the program attached to this post.
Under the new Pilot Sidewalk Repair Partnership Program, the City said it will match 50 percent of the cost of the sidewalk repair up to a maximum of $1,000 per parcel. Income-qualified residents may be eligible to receive a match of up to 70 percent of the cost of sidewalk repair, also to a maximum of $1,000 per parcel. Income qualifications are based on criteria from the Pasadena Water and Power Department’s Electric Assistance Program (UUAP) http://www.ci.pasadena.ca.us/waterandpower/CARE/.

-Damage to the sidewalk must be caused by a City-owned tree and verified by the City.
After property owners submit an application, The City said it will inspect the sidewalk to determine qualifications, condition, project limits and if the sidewalk was damaged by City tree roots. The City will then send an agreement to the property owner with the cost. Work will be scheduled by the City once the invoice has been paid in full. The City will be responsible for permits and working with a designated contractor to do the work.
The pilot program is based on a first come, first serve basis until the program’s funds are gone.
