Doo Dah Queen Tryouts Sunday

Hopefuls will try to wow the judges with zany costumes and performances so they can wear the crown in the upcoming 36th Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade.

What is Pasadena’s craziest parade without a queen?

Tryouts for the Doo Dah Queen will happen Sunday when individuals of all “genders, shapes, ages, and persuasions will test their fate,” according to the Doo Dah website.

Everyone, even spectators, is encouraged to dress randomly for the auditions that will be judged by former queens among others.

“Last year, judges selected Patrizzi Intergarlictica, for her gold sequin dress and strange dance against flashlights, a retro Bond-girl meets Liz Taylor Eqyptian style,” the Doo Dah Parade shared.

This year’s parade is grand marshaled by architect and Zorthian Ranch owner Alan Zorthian, who has helped breathe new life into the ranch property in Altadena, including the addition of the Urban Institute of Ecology.

Here is more from the Doo Dah Parade folks on what potential queens can do to prepare:

Each Queen Hopeful will have a few minutes to wow the Judges. Microphone and boom box, even drumroll, provided. Be ready to show us and tell us why YOU should be Queen! Bring Loyal Followers and HUMOR! Tell them to buy the judges a beer to get a chance to vote. Hecklers encouraged!
