Pasadena Eateries Offer Autumn and Halloween Sweets

Candy is dandy, but seasonal soufflés, ice cream and cupcakes are in town. Where are you getting your fall sweets fix in Pasadena?

You don’t have to dress up and walk door-to-door to get Halloween treats.

Pasadena bakeries and restaurants are showing up those neighbors that hand out the king-size Snickers bars every year by offering their own treats with a Halloween or autumn twist.

Candy Souffles:

Instead of sneaking a few pieces of candy you plan to give to trick-or-treaters—we all do it—have your candy in soufflé form.

Pop Champagne & Dessert Bar (33 East Union Street) is dedicating its soufflé flavor of the day to sweet Halloween classics. On Tuesday they are serving crunchy corn with vanilla anglaise and Wednesday (Halloween) they are serving a trick or treat soufflé, according to their October soufflé calendar. What is in the trick or treat soufflé? Guess you’ll have to wait and find out, like a costumed kid holding open their candy bag at a neighbor’s door.

Seasonal Ice Cream:

Carmela Ice Cream (2495 East Washington Boulevard), which uses farmers’ market produce and organic dairy in its small batch creations, has several seasonal flavors on hand that will make you feel warm and fuzzy, even if they are served cold. Take your pick of listed choices from the ice creamery’s website like roasted sweet potato, candied pecan, nutmeg, cardamom, brown butter sage or olive oil with toasted pine nuts. Their sorbets are also “fall”ing all over themselves with spiced apple, cranberry orange thyme and orange vanilla.

Cupcakes and Krispy Treats:

Cupcakes are trendy for a reason. You get something sweet and don’t have to worry about the temptation of eating an entire cake. Okay, and they’re adorable too.

Sugar Fix (63 South Raymond Avenue) is ready for fall with October’s cupcake flavor of the month: pumpkin spice. Stay tuned for November’s flavor. The bakery also offers a rotating vegan cupcake flavor of the day and that comes in pumpkin flavor too so everyone wins.

Scare things up with Sugar Fix’s skull-shaped Rice Krispies treats or see what else their imaginative dessert case has in store.
