Paris Holloway was charged Thursday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office with assault with a firearm on a peace officer, possession of a stolen firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property -- all felonies.
The misdemeanor count was possession of drug paraphernalia, said Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra. Holloway remains hospitalized as he was recovers from the shooting, Ibarra said. According to police, two officers on patrol approached Holloway around 10 a.m. on Oct. 11, near Hammond Street and Sunset Avenue. Officers tried to make contact with him but he fled, Ibarra said.
Police have not explained why they tried to make contact with Holloway. The officers then chased Holloway, who ran into the Kings Villages housing complex and allegedly produced a handgun and pointed it "in a threatening manner" at the officers, police said. One officer opened fire, hitting Holloway. A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.
Holloway was taken to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, according to Ibarra. Holloway was earlier arrested by Pasadena police on Aug. 27 for an unspecified misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 62 days in jail, but was released on Aug. 29, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
The shooting was being investigated by Pasadena police's Homicide/Assault detectives, according to Ibarra. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office police shooting team is also investigating the shooting. Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to call the Pasadena police at (626) 744-4241 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. All tips can be made anonymously.
