Pasadena Budget: City Expected To Adopt $897.8M Spending Plan

PASADENA, CA — Pasadena officials are expected to give their OK to a proposed $897.8 million budget for the next fiscal year during Monday's City Council meeting.

The city has spent the last several weeks fine-tuning its spending plan, holding public hearings and meeting with different departments to determine how Pasadena will allocate its funds for the next year.

Although the city’s economy took a hit because of the pandemic, this year’s spending plan is about $20 million more than the previous year. However, it’s still short of the $1.06 billion Pasadena spent before COVID-19.

The council meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and can be accessed by visiting the city's website.

Out of the nearly $900 million the city will spend over the next year, around $286.7 million of it will be from the general fund.

Some of the proposed expenditures the city is set to make include:

• Police department — $92.7 million
• Fire department —$56.3 million
• Parks, recreation and community services — $22.8 million
• Public works — $76.9 million
• Planning and community development — $20.6 million
• Transportation — $37.9 million

The city is also poised to spend around $35.9 million on the Rose Bowl Operating Company. Finding long-term funding for the Rose Bowl has been a priority for city officials and it’s expected the venue will see a $5.4 million to $7.7 million annual gap in revenue for the next five years.
