Car Show to Benefit Homeless, Abused Women in Pasadena

A Pasadena car dealership is teaming up with local classic car owners and Stonefire Grill to benefit Pasadena's Elizabeth House, which helps women who are facing tough times gain skills to get back on their feet.

Classic cars are often something to gawk at, especially when they are in numbers. But a May 5 Pasadena car show will be much more than just a chance to ogle mobile works of art.

Wanting to help a local cause he is passionate about and familiar with, Thorson Buick & GMC of Pasadena sales manager Merlin Froyd decided to use what he knows—cars—to plan a car show that benefits Elizabeth House in Pasadena.

Elizabeth House is a charity that helps homeless and, in many cases, abused pregnant women and their children find a loving place to live. The non-profit focuses on teaching the women healthy ways to live, raise their children, and find sustaining work and keeps in touch with them after they leave.

Froyd got a chance to see some of Elizabeth House in action when he served there with his church, Christian Assembly of Eagle Rock.

“We were able to meet the administrators and the women that were being helped,” Froyd shared. “It was so refreshing to see people fight the status quo, get their boots dirty, lean in to a problem, and work for a solution. This is our chance to give back and to raise awareness of this great charity.”

From noon to 2 p.m. May 5, the community can come by Thorson Motor Center (3456 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena) and view some of the “most awesome classic cars from local clubs and owners in the community,” Froyd noted.

Admission for the car show will be $10 and include lunch from Stonefire Grill. Since local car clubs and Stonefire Grill are donating, all proceeds will go directly to Elizabeth House.

"We believe businesses have the opportunity, change that, the responsibility to use our resources to bring light and attention to those in need," said Thorson Motor Center President Tom George in a release.

Froyd hopes the car show can become an annual fundraiser for Elizabeth House.
