Pasadena Cheeseburger Week Starts Jan. 13

More than 40 Pasadena restaurants are vying for the title of Pasadena's best cheeseburger, as chosen by diners.

Pasadena’s Cheeseburger Week is back for its second year Jan. 13-18 and even more is in store for 2013’s throwdown from the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

More than 40 Pasadena eateries, from bars to casual restaurants to fine dining destinations, are participating in the ode to the classic dish that was apparently created in Pasadena.

Lionel Sternberger placed cheese atop a burger at Pasadena’s Rite Spot in 1924, which is the first occurrence of a cheeseburger in recorded culinary history, according to various sources. One of Sternberger’s obituaries credited him with the cheeseburger creation and other clues point to Pasadena, the Pasadena Sun noted in this article.

This year’s Pasadena Cheeseburger Week will include suggested routes for Cheeseburger Crawls for those who want to try multiple burgers in a day by splitting them with friends--hopefully.

Some suggested crawl routes include a Traditional Pasadena Cheeseburger Crawl, an Old Pasadena White Table Cloth Cheeseburger Crawl, an East Pasadena Cheeseburger Crawl, an Alternative Cheeseburger Crawl, a South Lake Avenue Cheeseburger Crawl, a Beer and Burgers Cheeseburger Crawl and a Sliders Cheeseburger Crawl.
