Real Food Daily (899 E. Del Mar Blvd. off Lake Ave.) is another Pasadena restaurant I frequent.
They serve all organic, vegan cuisine and though I'm not vegan I eat primarily organic at home and don't feel like I'm missing out on anything when I eat RFD's dairy- and meat-free food. If anything, I always leave full and satisfied and often with a to-go box.
Friday night I felt particularly ravenous so I ordered the Caribbean quesadilla filled with lentil purée and soy cheese that comes with plantains--nature's candy, in my opinion--guacamole and mango salsa.
My companion ordered the Mediterranean bowl, which is like four salads in one with wild arugula, tomato and avocado; cucumber kalamata salad; white beans and basil salad; red quinoa tabouli and a scoop of salty almond feta with whole wheat zatar flatbread.
Last time I had dinner at RFD, I ordered the Mediterranean bowl and my companion ordered the quesadilla. They are both specials that will be missed when they're gone.
I rarely have room for dessert or a big dessert at RFD, despite their dessert case filled with tempting cakes, cookies and other sweet creations, but Friday I opted for a fudge brownie and had it warmed. The chocolate chips inside the large, dark brown chewy dessert were all melted and gooey and I ate it with a fork while my companion also dug in and helped out with the delicious task. I was full for the rest of the night.
My companion ordered the walnut truffle--on par with any tasty, rich, creamy filled truffle I've had--and my usual RFD go-to dessert choice of a coco joy, which is like a gourmet square version of a Mounds bar with coconut wrapped in dark chocolate. I especially like that it's sweetened only with maple sugar and agave.
See photos of the meal and the brownie topped with a bitten-into truffle attached to this post.
