Pasadena Public Library Removes Late Fees For Adults

PASADENA, CA — Anyone returning an overdue book to a Pasadena Public Library will no longer have to worry about paying any late fees beginning this month.

The library eliminated overdue fines for all adult materials to encourage people to visit their local branch, officials said in a statement. Overdue fines for children's materials were previously waived.

“Eliminating overdue fines will encourage library use by all our residents, removing any barriers to access from those who stand to benefit the most from free library resources, residents with limited income and children, providing equal access to information and knowledge for all,” officials said.

Although late fees will no longer be applied to overdue materials, library patrons will still be fined for materials that have been lost or damaged.

The announcement comes following the Pasadena Public Library reopening eight of its branches to in-person service following California lifting its coronavirus restrictions last month. The Hills Avenue Branch Library remains open for curbside service only while the Central Library has been close since May after earthquake safety concerns were raised.

The full list of libraries currently open for service is:

• Allendale Branch Library: 1130 S. Marengo Ave., Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Hastings Branch Library: 3325 E. Orange Grove Blvd., Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
• Hills Avenue Branch Library (Curbside only): 55 S. Hill Ave., Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• La Pintoresca Branch Library: 1355 N. Raymond Ave., Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Lamanda Park Branch Library: 140 S. Altadena Drive, Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Linda Vista Branch Library: 1281 Bryant St., Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• San Rafael Branch Library: 1240 Nithsdale Road, Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Santa Catalina Branch Library: 999 E. Washington Blvd., Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Villa Parke Branch Library: 363 E. Villa St., Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
