PUSD Run-Off Election: Hampton Defeats Hueso

The lone run-off election for the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education Tuesday was a clear defeat, with Tyron Hampton winning the District 3 seat.

Hampton received 61 percent of the vote with 904 votes, while candidate Ruben Hueso received 38.9 percent of the vote with 577 votes, according to the Pasadena City Clerk.

No District 3 candidate reached at least 51 percent of the vote—a requirement to be declared the winner—in the March 5 election. Hueso and Hampton faced off Tuesday since they were the two highest vote-getters March 5.

Meanwhile, the PUSD is seeking applicants to fill a school board seat that will be left vacant next month when member Kim Kenne assumes a different position she won March 5. Residents of Pasadena, Altadena or Sierra Madre are eligible.

Pasadena school board members voted to appoint the seat rather than hold a special election, which saves the PUSD $500,000 to $700,00.
