Pasadena Weekend: Street Closures, Make Music Pasadena, Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia

Large free music festival Make Music Pasadena and cycling event Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia will result in street closures and more traffic this weekend. Know where to steer clear and how to get around.

It wouldn’t be a Pasadena weekend without a few big events happening. And sometimes with those events comes street closures and traffic.  

Here’s what’s happening in Pasadena this weekend that could affect your drive and how you can navigate your way.  

Make Music Pasadena  
This event happening from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 1 is the largest free music festival on the west coast, so you can bet it will require transportation planning if you’re in the area.

Up to 35,000 people are expected to attend this year as over 100 acts play over 150 free concerts at dozens of venues throughout the city.  

Road Closures
The Old Pasadena stage features entertainment from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.    The following streets will be closed from 5 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.:

  • Colorado Boulevard between Fair Oaks Avenue & Arroyo Parkway
  • Raymond Avenue between Union Avenue & Green Street
Entertainment on the Playhouse District stage runs from Noon until 7:00 p.m.  Madison Avenue, between Colorado Boulevard and Green Street will be closed from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.  

Residents are encouraged to use Del Mar Boulevard and Walnut Street for east- and westbound travel or Orange Grove Boulevard and Lake Avenue for north-and southbound travel on event day, the City of Pasadena advises.  

Transportation  

Metro
If you are going to Old Town during Make Music Pasadena, your best bet for getting there will likely be the Metro Gold Line. Exit Memorial Park station in Old Town or the Del Mar station a couple blocks south of Colorado.  

ARTS Buses
The city’s ARTS buses will offer extended, additional and FREE Service on Route 10 serving Make Music Pasadena venues June 1. Special service announcements and alerts online at www.cityofpasadena.net/Transportation/Arts_Routes_and_Schedules.  

The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia
June 2  

From the City of Pasadena:  

The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia is a colorful, exciting European-style bicycle ride with opportunities for bicyclists of all ages and abilities to participate in road courses of 25, 69 and 94 miles.   

The event begins at 7:00 a.m. June 2 at Pasadena City Hall, and travels throughout the greater Pasadena area. 

More than 500 bicyclists are expected to participate, with riders beginning to return to Pasadena City Hall around 8:30 a.m. and throughout the rest of the morning.  

Road Conditions

For Gran Fondo, there are no specific road closures. There will be rolling escorts along the course and caution is urged when encountering bicyclists. Event info at www.gfgiro.com.
