PCC Journalism Professor Placed on Leave

Assistant professor Warren Swil has been an advisor to the Pasadena City College Courier since 2007.

Swil has been the advisor for the Pasadena City College Courier for about seven years, and many people believe the decision to put him on leave has ties to the Courier's coverage of criticism against the school's leaders. An e-mail from one of Swil's retired predecessors indicated this, according to the Sun.

“It is no secret that the college is in a state of political crisis with two votes of ‘no confidence’ in the president and his administration,” wrote Mikki Bolliger to the state Journalism Association of Community Colleges. “Because of the paper's coverage of the turmoil, the consensus on campus is that the journalism program has been targeted by the administration.”
