Pride Month began in the 1970s in honor of the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York that occurred after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar, in New York City, according to the Library of Congress.
Pride initially began as only a day in June before encompassing the entire month and now includes parades, concerts and workshops in celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community.
