Small Brush Fire Scorches Hillside In Pasadena

PASADENA, CA — A small brush fire erupted near the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena Thursday morning.

The fire was reported just after 9 a.m. west of the college near Lida Street, according to the Pasadena Fire Department. The blaze was reported to be about 50 square feet and slowly spreading up a nearby hill.

No structures were damaged by the fire and it was ultimately contained to one acre, according to the fire department. Personnel from the Glendale and Los Angeles County fire departments aided in extinguishing the blaze.

Authorities determined the fire was accidentally set by sparks being made from nearby construction work.

The fire is just the latest in a series of fires that have plagued the Southland in recent days in the midst of a heatwave that sent temperatures in some areas soaring past 95 degrees.

On Wednesday, a fire scorched two acres in Elysian Park while a series of fires broke out along the 73 toll road in Laguna Beach. A brush fire also broke out in Playa Vista earlier this week near the 90 and 405 freeways, burning up one acre.
