1 Killed, 1 Injured In Lakeville Highway Collision: Petaluma PD

A Marin County man died in the crash at the intersection of Lakeville Highway and South McDowell Boulevard.

PETALUMA, CA — A collision between two cars Wednesday on Lakeville Highway in Petaluma took the life of one driver, Petaluma police said.

The fatal crash — the second in as many days on a Petaluma city street — was reported at 6:32 p.m. at the intersection of Lakeville Highway and South McDowell Boulevard.

A black Nissan pickup truck was northbound on Lakeville Highway and a white Toyota sedan was traveling west on South McDowell Boulevard, across the intersection, when the two vehicles collided.

"Both vehicles came to rest in a small grove of trees adjacent to the Petaluma Poultry parking lot on the northwest corner of the intersection," Petaluma police said. "The driver of the Toyota was declared deceased at the scene."

The driver of the Nissan was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The crash was still under investigation late Wednesday.

The Toyota driver was identified as Rene Alvarez Deleon, 38, of San Rafael, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office.
