Authorities ID Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Highway 37 Crash
A CHP spokesman said investigators still have not determined where the Sonoma County woman entered Highway 37.
NORTH BAY, CA — The Marin County Sheriff's Office has identified a driver who died in a wrong-way driving collision in Novato on Tuesday night as Linda Abrahams, 70, of Bodega Bay. Abrahams was driving a Hyundai Elantra west on eastbound state Highway 37 near Atherton Avenue around 9:20 p.m. when she collided with a Volkswagen Golf driven by an American Canyon woman, California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay said.
Two CHP motorcycle officers were almost struck head-on by Abrahams' Hyundai in the fast lane of the highway while they responded to the report of a wrong-way driver. Abrahams swerved her vehicle around the officers and crashed into the Volkswagen Golf behind them, Barclay said.
Abrahams died at the scene, and the Volkswagen driver suffered minor to moderate injuries, Barclay said.
