How You Can Help Mystic Theatre 'Keep Lights On'

Ticket revenues are stalled, but rent is still due at the Petaluma music hall. Managers hope gift cards will help venue's survival.

PETALUMA, CA — As Mystic Theatre & Music Hall management navigates through the current bleakness of zero concerts and zero income, hopes are high that a newly launched gift-card promotion will bring in cash, help pay the rent and see the Petaluma landmark through the coronavirus shutdown.

"Today, in the midst of an unprecedented challenge to the future of live music, we are reaching out to ask for your support and launching our gift-card program," said Ineffable Music Group, the venue's operators. "Unfortunately, our landlord has refused to reduce the rent on the theatre by even a single penny, so we are reaching out to our community to help us keep the lights on."

The downtown theater, with a vaudeville-era past dating to 1911, was refurbished in the 1990s and now ranks as a flourishing hot-spot for live performances. Due to state mandates to thwart the spread of COVID-19, all shows at the Mystic are canceled through May.

Looking to jump-start an income stream, theater managers now are selling discounted gift cards. The cards have no expiration and will be valid for any future concert at the Mystic. For a limited time, the cards are sold at a 25-percent discount — as in "spend $100 get a $125 card," officials said. In addition, 10 percent of all gift-card sales will go to the laid-off, hourly staff.

"We hope that if you are financially able, you will help us get through this complete shutdown and we can all celebrate together with some more amazing shows in the near future," Mystic operators said. "The North Bay has been so strong and resilient through anything that gets thrown at us, we know we can all come out stronger on the other side!"
