Jail Inmate Who Died Identified By Sonoma County Sheriff's Office

The female inmate was found unresponsive in her cell minutes after her cellmate suffered a medical emergency, the sheriff's office said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Sonoma County jail inmate who died in custody Thursday morning was identified by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Friday as Amber Marcotte, 34, of Santa Rosa.

Jail personnel found Marcotte unresponsive in her cell shortly after 4:30 a.m. Thursday. An ambulance was requested minutes earlier for her cellmate who suffered a medical emergency, according to sheriff's Sgt. Juan Valencia.

As a second ambulance was requested for Marcotte, deputies and fire personnel worked to revive her but she was pronounced dead at 5:20 a.m., Valencia said.

The Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office is conducting the investigation into what caused Marcotte's death.

"There were no signs of a physical altercation," Valencia said.

Her cellmate was taken to a local hospital and was expected to survive, he said.

Marcotte had been at the Main Detention Facility in Santa Rosa since July 10 when she was arrested on suspicion of her second DUI offense in seven years, according to the sheriff's office and Sonoma County Superior Court Records.

"We send our condolences to Marcotte's family and friends during this difficult time," Valencia said.
