Landlady Pulls Gun From Fanny Pack, Shoots At Woman, Child: SCSO

Sonoma County deputies found a revolver in the house, a spent casing in the trash and a bullet lodged in a tree, a sheriff's official said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office arrested a homeowner Thursday morning for allegedly shooting at a woman and child during a dispute about trespassing at her home in the 11000 block of Sutton Street west of Petaluma.

Margot Cardarelli, 58, told sheriff's deputies she was arguing with a woman about staying in her tenant's bedroom in violation of the tenant's rental contract, and she fired a round into the ground not at the woman, Sgt. Juan Valencia said.

The woman said she was staying at a friend's house with her 4-year-old daughter and Cardarelli woke her up and told her to leave. She said Cardardelli followed her to her car and took photos of her and her daughter with a cellphone.

The woman said she pushed the cellphone away from Cardarelli and Cardarelli took a step back and fired one round at her that missed her and her daughter who was inside the vehicle.

The woman said she left with her daughter and called the sheriff's office.

"The victim said Margot pulled a revolver out of her fanny pack and shot at her," Valencia said.

Deputies found a revolver in the house, a spent casing in a trash can and a bullet lodged in a tree next to where the woman was standing, Valencia said.

Cardarelli was booked in the Sonoma County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm and child endangerment, but she posted bail, Valencia said.
