PETALUMA, CA — The Petaluma Police Department is trying to track down a man accused of exposing himself to two young girls Tuesday.

The girls, 7 and 12 years old, were walking around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of Joan Drive — not far from Lucceshi Park — when a car drove past them, then made a U-turn and parked along the curb in front of them, Petaluma police Sgt. Patrick Gerke said in a news release.

The girls did not know the man driving the car but said as they walked past him, he asked them a question.

"As the victims answered his question they saw the male's penis was exposed and they noticed that he was masturbating," Gerke said. "Both girls immediately fled the area."

The suspect was described as an Asian American man between 20 and 30 years old with black hair wearing eyeglasses and royal blue medical scrubs.

The car, a mid-2000s navy blue, four-door Volkswagen Golf hatchback, was captured on video so officers sent out an image of it Wednesday morning in an attempt to identify the suspect.

The girls described the car as "dirty," Gerke said.

Police asked anyone with any pertinent information to contact the Petaluma Police Department at 707-778-4372.
