Netflix Series Using North Bay As Backdrop

NORTH BAY, CA -- A Netflix original series is being filmed in San Rafael, with some scenes expected to be shot in Novato and elsewhere in Marin and the North Bay.

The series, "13 Reasons Why," directed by "Spotlight" director Tom McCarthy and co-produced by Selena Gomez, is being shot over a period of at least six months, the Marin Independent Journal reported.

The series about teenage bullying is expected to generate an economic benefit for the area by way of hotel room taxes and purchases made by cast and crew members.

“It’s a very big positive impact,” Joanne Webster, head of San Rafael’s Chamber of Commerce, told the newspaper.
