Petaluma City Council, Measure U Election Results 2020

PETALUMA, CA — The polls — and ballot boxes — are now officially closed for the 2020 presidential election. Locally, Petaluma voters were tasked with deciding on Measure CC and Measure U, while eight candidates, including three incumbents, competed for three seats on the Petaluma City Council. Tuesday's general election also involved four candidates vying for two seats on the Petaluma City Schools board of trustees.
The City Council candidates are: incumbent Mike Healy, an attorney seeking his sixth, four-year term; incumbent Kathy Miller, an attorney seeking her third term; incumbent Gabe Kearney, an emergency services coordinator seeking his second term; challenger Susan Kirks, a communication specialist/conservation consultant; challenger Dennis Pocekey, a physician and community volunteer; challenger Lizzie Wallack, a mother of two and a founding partner of Everywhere Architecture who sought her first term; challenger Brian Barnacle, a clean energy consultant; and challenger Robert Conklin, who serves on Petaluma's Tree Advisory.

Petaluma Joint Union High School District
In the race for two trustee seats on the governing board for Petaluma Joint Union High School District/Petaluma City Schools, the candidates were:
Incumbent Ellen Webster, a retired teacher; Sheldon Gen, a college professor; challenger Linda Judah, an educator/biologist/parent; and challenger Carol Ann Street.

Measure CC, Petaluma Health Care District
Early election night results showed Measure CC
Ballot Question: To assure continued operation of Petaluma Valley Hospital as an acute care hospital with 24/7 walkin basic emergency care for a minimum of 20 years, shall the Petaluma Health Care District enter into an agreement to sell Petaluma Valley Hospital to NorCal HealthConnect, LLC, a secular affiliate of Providence St. Joseph Health, for $52.6 million, per the terms approved by Resolution 20-05 adopted August 6, 2020?
A “yes” vote on Measure CC will allow District to proceed to sell substantially all of its assets to NorCal.
A “no” vote on Measure CC will prohibit the District from proceeding with the sale.

Measure U
Ballot Question: City of Petaluma Local Recovery, Emergency Preparedness, and Essential Services Measure. To maintain emergency health/wildfire/natural disaster preparedness; rapid 911 emergency response; fire protection services/firefighting equipment; well-trained community police officers; streets/pothole repair; clean/safe public areas; support for local businesses/jobs; and other city services; shall the City of Petaluma adopt a measure establishing a 1¢ sales tax, providing approximately $13,500,000 annually until ended by voters, requiring audits, citizen oversight, and all funds spent locally?
A “yes” vote on Measure U authorizes the City of Petaluma to increase the sales tax by 1%.
A “no” vote on Measure U prohibits the City of Petaluma from imposing the proposed sales tax.
