Petaluma Man Dies In Lakeville Hwy Crash With Cal Fire Vehicle

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office identified a Petaluma man as the driver of a Jeep who died in a collision with a Cal Fire vehicle.

PETALUMA, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified a driver who died in a collision with a Cal Fire vehicle on Lakeville Highway Friday afternoon as Sterling Dabner, 59, of Petaluma.

Dabner was ejected from the Jeep he was driving when it collided with a Cal Fire Chevrolet Tahoe around 2:30 p.m. near Old Lakeville Highway Road No. 1 in unincorporated Sonoma County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

"Despite efforts of medical staff on scene, the driver of the Jeep was pronounced deceased," the CHP said in a news release.

The driver of the Cal Fire Tahoe was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries described as moderate, according to the CHP.

The roadway was closed for several hours as the crash was investigated.

"Upon arrival on scene, we located the Jeep facing wrong way in the southbound lane with major damage," CHP officials said. "The Cal Fire Tahoe was located off the east side of the roadway with major damage and airbags deployed."
