Petaluma Man Identified As Bicyclist Hit, Killed On Corona Road

The fatal collision resulted in the closure of the Corona Road overpass for nearly seven hours.

PETALUMA, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified a bicyclist struck and killed by a car Tuesday on Corona Road in Petaluma as Bryan Cacy, 39, of Petaluma.

Cacy was struck at 9:28 a.m. on Corona Road near Industrial Avenue, just before the Corona Road overpass at U.S. Highway 101.

The driver who struck him was identified by Petaluma police as John Dethlefsen, a 65- year-old, Petaluma resident who was booked into jail Tuesday on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

Petaluma police say Dethlefsen was driving the wrong way on Corona Road when he hit Cacy and then an oncoming Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Police said Cacy was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Dethlefsen remained behind bars Wednesday at Sonoma County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail pending a court appearance Thursday afternoon.
