Petaluma Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash On Stony Point Road: CHP
The fatal collision happened near a restaurant at Stony Point and Roblar roads.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning in a collision with a pickup truck in a rural, unincorporated area of Sonoma County northwest of Petaluma, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened around 10:20 a.m. on Stony Point Road near Roblar Road as the motorcyclist was traveling north on Stony Point and was struck just north of Roblar by a Ram Ford pickup truck driven by an 80-year-old Valley Ford man, according to a CHP spokesperson.
Preliminary investigation indicated the driver of the truck turned left from Roblar onto northbound Stony Point ahead of the motorcyclist, then drove a short distance and made a left turn into the parking lot of a restaurant, CHP Officer David deRutte said.
"The motorcyclist approached the Ram and attempted to pass on the left, over double yellow roadway lines," deRutte said. "The motorcycle collided into the left side of the Ram and the motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle."
Medical personnel pronounced the male motorcyclist dead at the scene.
He was a resident of Petaluma whose name will be released by the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office once his next of kin have been properly notified.
"At this time, there is no indication of impairment with either party," deRutte said.
CHP asked anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it to call the Santa Rosa CHP Office at 707-588-1400.
