Petaluma Man Suspected Of DUI, Hospitalized In Critical Condition

The CHP said a Petaluma man was going more than 50 mph when he hit the back of a car stopped at a stop sign, causing a four-car collision.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Petaluma man who is suspected of drunken driving in a four-vehicle collision Thursday in Penngrove remains in critical condition from injuries suffered in the crash, the California Highway Patrol said Friday.

The crash was reported at 4:15 p.m. Thursday on Adobe Road near Davis Lane, CHP Officer David deRutte said.

CHP's preliminary investigation indicated Eliseo Ramirez-Gomez, 67, Petaluma, was driving a Chevy Cruze westbound on Adobe going more than 50 mph as he approached the intersection at Davis Lane and rear-ended a Toyota Rav4.

The Toyota Rav4 was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Adobe and Davis, and the two cars in front of it — a Toyota Yaris and a Toyota Scion — were also stopped at the stop sign, deRutte said.

The crash pushed the Rav4 into the back of the Yaris, which then was pushed into the back of the Scion, deRutte said.

Ramirez-Gomez suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The Rav4 driver suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The other two drivers were not injured.

"During the investigation, it was determined Ramirez-Gomez was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and he was placed under arrest," deRutte said. "As of Friday morning, the condition of Ramirez-Gomez remains critical."

Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to call the Santa Rosa CHP Office at 707-588-1400.
