Record-Breaking High Temps Drive Crowds To Sonoma Coast: PHOTOS

As Santa Rosa broke a heat record set in 1922, many flocked to the Sonoma Coast.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — As high-temperature records were shattered Thursday across the Bay Area, including in the North Bay, many flocked to the coast for some relief.

Bodega Bay was a popular destination on the Sonoma Coast, with Doran Regional Park reaching capacity by noon.

According to the National Weather Service, the following heat records were set Thursday in the Bay Area:

  • Santa Rosa reached 104 degrees; broke the previous record of 101 on June 17, 1922
  • San Rafael reached 103 degrees; broke the previous record of 99 on June 17, 1956
  • Kentfield reached 103 degrees; broke the previous record of 102 on June 17, 1992
  • Livermore reached 107 degrees; broke the previous record of 104 on June 17, 1961
  • Redwood City reached 103 degrees; broke the previous record of 100 on June 17, 1945
  • Gilroy reached 106 degrees; broke the previous record of 105 on June 17, 1961
  • King City reached 101 degrees; broke the previous record of 100 on June 17, 1933

The National Weather Service noted the following high temps Thursday in the North Bay:

  • Kentfield 103
  • Napa 102
  • Napa Airport 100
  • San Rafael 103
  • Sonoma County Airport 102
  • Santa Rosa 104
