Sonoma County To Vaccinate Homebound Residents For Coronavirus

Anyone 16 and older who is homebound for a medical reason can receive a coronavirus vaccine dose at home.

PETALUMA, CA — Sonoma County has set up a mobile vaccine clinic for those who are homebound for a variety of medical reasons or would have difficulty getting to a vaccination site, the county said Friday.

The mobile clinic will bring doses to the homes of anyone 16 and older who qualifies.

County officials said they are reaching out to residents who may not be connected to a service provider by making radio announcements and communicating directly with Latinx community organizers.

Community members can help by reaching out to those who may be homebound to share information about the mobile vaccine effort.

"We want to connect with those individuals who are homebound for medical reasons and let them know we will come to their home to vaccinate them against COVID-19," said Dr. Urmila Shende, head of the county’s vaccination team. "This is part of the county’s campaign to take care of our medically vulnerable residents and make sure they don’t slip between the cracks of the vaccine rollout."

Fox Home Health's mobile clinic is available to any Sonoma County resident who is homebound, as defined by Medicare.

Medicare considers you homebound if:

  • A resident needs the help of another person or medical equipment such as crutches, a walker or a wheelchair to leave home.
  • If a doctor believes the resident's health or illness could get worse if they leave home.
  • It is difficult for the resident to leave home.

"Even if you are homebound, you can still leave your home for medical treatment, religious services, and/or to attend a licensed or accredited adult day care center without putting your homebound status at risk," a county release said.

Homebound residents can call 707-565-4667 or email stompcovid@foxandassociates.org for more information.
