64-Year-Old Woman Killed as Shots Fired into Richmond Home

A 64-year-old woman was killed and a man was injured when bullets came through a window of a Richmond home late Wednesday night, police said today. 

Police received reports of a shooting at a home in the 100 block of 20th Street around 11 p.m., Detective Nicole Abetkov said. The city's ShotSpotter gunshot detection system was also activated. 

Officers arrived to find a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, Abetkov said.   

A Contra Costa County coroner's deputy today identified the woman as Bonnita McGuire Todd.

A man in his 40s who was inside the home at the time of the shooting suffered what appear to be superficial gunshot wounds and was also hospitalized, police said.
Abetkov said the shots were fired from outside the home. Police were searching the area in front of the home for evidence on Wednesday night, but no arrests have been made.

The killing is Richmond's 11th homicide this year and the second in the past week.

Richmond resident Juan Medrano, 20, was shot and killed while driving along Richmond Parkway last Friday.  

Richmond police are investigating 10 of this year's homicides, and BART police are investigating the 11th, a fatal shooting that occurred at the Richmond BART station on March 14.
