AC Transit To Resume Bus Service To East Bay Schools

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District will resume service on several bus lines that serve East Bay schools as they reopen for in-class instruction, AC Transit announced Monday.

The bus lines in the 600-series have been suspended since March 2020 at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are expected to resume in the next week as several schools and school districts reopen on April 19.

The reactivated bus lines include those that serve schools in the Newark Unified School District, the Oakland Unified School District and the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

Ridership capacity caps for each bus line will be in effect in accordance with state public health guidelines, according to AC Transit.

Standard 40-foot buses will be capped at 10 passengers while AC Transit's 60-foot articulated buses will be capped at 16 riders. Buses that have reached full capacity will be designated as "drop-off only" until one or more passengers requests to exit.

Riders will also be required to wear a face mask at all times while on AC Transit buses and at AC Transit bus stops.
