Big Rig Overturns, Spills Logs Across I-80 In Pinole

A wood chipper crew responded to help clear huge uncut logs that spilled across freeway lanes, the California Highway Patrol reported.

PINOLE, CA — A big rig overturned Friday on Interstate Highway 80 in Pinole, spilling a container full of wooden logs across the freeway and injuring at least one person.

The incident was first reported around 9:45 a.m. on eastbound I-80, west of Fitzgerald Drive, and a Sig-alert was issued at 10 a.m. because of "huge uncut logs spilled across the freeway," the California Highway Patrol reported.

Several cars were forced to stop and some collided with the debris.

Multiple lanes of the freeway, as well as the Richmond Parkway onramp to eastbound I-80, remained blocked for more than three hours.

As of 1:30 p.m., the two right lanes were still blocked but the two left lanes were open, according to CHP dispatchers.

Motorists were advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes to avoid the area, as there was no estimated time to fully reopen the roadway, 511SF.org reported.
