Car Crashes From Overpass Onto I-80, Snarling Traffic

PINOLE, CA Z— A vehicle crashed from an overpass onto the westbound lanes of the I-80 in Pinole Sunday afternoon, backing up traffic for miles.

The crash was reported at Appian Way just before 4 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. One vehicle was involved in the freeway crash, which scattered debris from the overpass into the lanes below. The 1 and 2 lanes quickly reopened, but the 3 and 4 lanes did not reopen until after 5 p.m., as crews worked in the rain to remove the vehicle and debris, according to California Highway Patrol.

Traffic was backed up to just east of Pinole Valley Road, CHP reported.
