Career Education Info Night Tuesday at Contra Costa College

Instructors, graduates and industry professionals will discuss programs available to prospective students.

SAN PABLO, CA — Are you looking to boost your career but don't know where to start? Contra Costa College will hold a Career Education Info Night on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018.

The evening will introduce students and community members to the school’s career education programs, which stress hands-on training in job-specific skills.

"We are thrilled to invite community members, partners, and local business owners to campus to showcase our career education programs and services," said Dean of Workforce and Economic Development Kelly Schelin. "Contra Costa College offers high-quality training programs that help people start and advance their careers. The open house is an excellent opportunity for people to learn about what we offer and how we can help them reach their goals."

Some career education programs are short-term paths that prepare students for immediate employment or career advancement. Others ready students for transfer to four-year schools and pursuit of more advanced degrees.

Five of the programs were recently awarded Strong Workforce Stars by the Chancellor of California Community Colleges, for having raised student income.

The school’s career education programs include:

  • Culinary Arts Management

  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • Forklift, Logistics, Operations + Warehouse

  • Medical Assisting + Office Technician

  • Public Health Science
  • Real Estate

The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm at 2600 Mission Bell Dr. Instructors, graduates and industry professionals will be on hand to provide information about the various programs. There will also be demonstrations of some of the school’s industry-standard equipment. Signs on campus will direct students to the participating departments.

Pizza will be provided by the culinary department’s restaurant. Child care and Spanish-language interpreters will also be available.

About Contra Costa College

CCC has served communities in west Contra Costa County since 1950. Since 1956, it has occupied 83 park-like acres overlooking the San Pablo Bay. In recent years, the campus has undertaken a massive modernization effort, including major construction and retrofit projects.

The college is home to several notable programs, including: the Center for Science Excellence, which works to increase minority participation in the sciences; its impressively awarded student newspaper, The Advocate; and one of the top community college speech and debate teams in the nation.
