Driver Crashes, Dies In El Sobrante
The CHP believes the man suffered a medical emergency, causing the crash.
EL SOBRANTE, CA — Investigators say a 66-year-old man who died after crashing his car Thursday morning in the El Sobrante area of unincorporated Contra Costa County may have suffered a heart attack, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Just after 9 a.m., emergency crews responded to a solo crash on eastbound San Pablo Dam Road near La Colina Road where a Volkswagen sedan had crashed into a metal pole just off the roadway.
The driver, whose name was not immediately available, was unresponsive when they arrived. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Officers think that a medical emergency may have occurred just before the crash, causing the driver to veer off the roadway. Drugs and alcohol are not thought to be factors.
