Driver Dies In Fiery Highway 4 Crash: CHP
CHP said the man's pickup truck went off the roadway, through a fence and landed on a frontage road, where it became engulfed in flames.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A man died in a fiery crash early Sunday east of Pinole and Hercules when his pickup truck went off state Highway 4 and landed on a frontage road, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers and emergency personnel were dispatched at 3:04 a.m. to westbound Highway 4, just east of the Pine Street/Center Avenue exit, where a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado went off the north side of the highway and landed on Arnold Drive, according to the Contra Costa Area CHP Office.
CHP's preliminary investigation of the fatal crash indicated the truck crashed through a fence and landed on its wheels on the frontage road, where it became engulfed in flames.

The unidentified driver, who was alone in the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office was expected to release his name once his identity was known.

CHP was not immediately able to determine whether the deadly crash involved alcohol and/or drugs.
